From resident to role model

As Brightstar’s first graduate, Lexi now shares her voice and strength to uplift others on their path to recovery.

Lexi_Over the Edge photoLexi was Brightstar’s very first graduate—and she’s never stopped giving back. From raising awareness about trafficking to rappelling down a building for a fundraiser, Lexi continues to support the organization that helped her reclaim her life. Her story is one of courage, growth, and paying it forward so other women can heal, too.

About Lexi

After Lexi graduated from Brightstar, she took time to find an apartment and has been living there for three years. She is in an amazing relationship and has a dog named Abigail. Lexi currently works with individuals with disabilities and enjoys having a career centered around helping people.

Lexi hopes to become more involved in the organization and assist Brightstar in helping more women to heal and achieve a better life. She strongly supports Brightstar’s mission due to its structure of being 100% recovery-focused for two years. This enables residents to focus on healing while slowly incorporating things like responsibilities and employment back into their lives.

Commitment to Brightstar

Lexi has shown her commitment to Brightstar when she stepped up to rappel down a building for a recent Over the Edge fundraiser. Lexi was unsure of how tall the building was going to be, but she thought it would be a cool experience.

As Lexi was driving towards the Hyatt building, everything started to feel real, and the nerves began to kick in. The scariest part for her was having to jump over the edge to begin rappelling. Despite the big jump, Lexi felt empowered for doing something out of her comfort zone for a good cause.

Favorite Brightstar memory

Lexi’s favorite Brightstar memory is from the Day of Caring. Several volunteers came together and completed miscellaneous house tasks such as yard work and planting flowers. With the collaborative work of the volunteers, they were able to make Lisa’s House a beautiful home to live in.
