Perseverance, purpose, and the power of community

Originally from Canandaigua, Chantel spent most of her adult life in Geneva before moving to Rochester to pursue recovery. In August 2023, she became a senior resident at Brightstar Community, committed to breaking the cycle of addiction after years of trying to get sober through various inpatient programs.

When Chantel arrived at Brightstar, she was struggling to live independently and maintain sobriety. But through her courage and the support of the Brightstar family, she’s now celebrated over a year and eight months sober.

In that time, she has achieved remarkable personal milestones:

  • Earned her driver’s license
  • Bought a car
  • Has maintained stable employment
  • Rebuilding relationships with her three children, four grandchildren, and her mother
  • Moving into her own apartment in June

Giving back to the community

Her commitment to her community is demonstrated not only through her career but also through her free time. Chantel frequently volunteers and does service work at centers and organizations that are dedicated to helping individuals conquer challenges such as domestic violence and addiction.

Chantel volunteers regularly with organizations like Bethany House, Villa of Hope, Liberty Manor, Norris Addiction Treatment Center, Helio, and AA - all centers dedicated to helping individuals overcome domestic violence, addiction, and instability.

Going forward

Chantel’s journey exemplifies Brightstar’s core values of love, safety, compassion, and transformation

Chantel is continuing to work on her sobriety while also giving guidance to others who are battling similar challenges. One of her long-term goals is to learn to live independently, reach two years of sobriety, and improve her credit score, among other financial goals.

Her dedication to guiding and supporting her community is a testament to her determination and enthusiasm to enhance the well-being of her life as well as the lives of others.

Brightstar is incredibly lucky to have her as part of this family, and we are so proud of her accomplishments!
